SOUTH INDIAN FILTER COFFEE

Make South Indian Filter Coffee with My Coffee Co.’s Amber Blend(80% Arabica, 20% Robusta)

South Indian filter coffee—also known as kaapi—is a cultural icon. Rich, aromatic, and traditionally enjoyed with milk and sugar, it’s brewed using a special metal filter that produces a thick coffee concentrate called decoction. The best coffee for this method is My Coffee Co.’s Amber Blend (80% Arabica, 20% Robusta), which delivers strength, body, and depth, perfectly complementing milk.

Why Amber Blend is Perfect for South Indian Filter Coffee

The South Indian filter brewing style is slow-drip, which extracts deep flavors over time. The Amber Blend’s Robusta content provides intensity, while the Arabica component balances it with smoothness. This harmony results in an authentic cup that’s strong yet not overwhelming.

What You’ll Need

Step 1: Add Coffee (Image 1)

  • Place the perforated pressing disc inside the top chamber of the South Indian filter.
  • Add 20g of Amber Blend (ground medium-fine) into the upper chamber.

Step 2: Level the Coffee (Image 2)

  • Place the pressing disc lightly on top of the grounds to even them out.
  • Don’t tamp too hard—just enough to keep the layer flat.

Step 3: Pour Hot Water (Image 3)

  • Add 150ml of hot water (90–95°C) into the upper chamber.
  • Cover with the lid and let it slowly drip into the lower chamber.

Step 4: Brew & Serve (Image 4)

  • Wait 10–15 minutes for the decoction to collect in the bottom chamber.
  • Mix 2–3 tbsp of decoction with hot milk and sugar to taste.
  • For authenticity, “pull” the coffee between the tumbler and dabarah for rich froth and aroma
